Everyday Life

It’s my 10th Blogiversary! and How to start blogging too!

I have always been approached by friends and colleagues for advice on how to start blogging. As I celebrate my blogging anniversary, I can’t believe that it’s officially been 10 years since I’ve been blogging. Throughout the years, I’ve blogged about my faith (how it really all started), my love life, my pregnancy, my cooking experiments, parenting, home decor, and so more. I’ve always been drawn to blogging. It’s my outlet and in some cases, you can say it’s also my therapy. Some people journal. I blog.

The blogger community is more than just a bunch of people who like to write. We are actually a community. I have had the privilege of attending blogger conferences/retreats and have met tons of super cool people who are doing amazing things in the blogosphere.

Blogging got me an invitation from Kravet & HGTV to attend a blogger-only event that up to this day has me tickled fancy every time I look at these pictures.

Blogging allowed me to get creative in the kitchen and produce a recipe that made it as a finalist in a food blogger competition.

Both of these achievements are just a fraction of what I’ve experienced as a blogger. The crazy thing is, it’s not as difficult as some people make it out to be. If you have a hobby or an area of expertise, you can launch a blog in less than 24 hours and become a part of something spectacular.

Get my drift??? Whatever you love to do, blog about it. Successful blogs are those that cover a topic that the writer is passionate about. If you aren’t interested in what you write, no one will want to read it.

Blogging today has totally evolved. Believe it or not, some people have turned their blogs into a full-fledged business that has allowed them to support their families. My eyes were opened to the possibility of this becoming more than just a hobby when I came across A Pinch Of Yum blog. This food blog listed their monthly earnings and blew my mind. What I loved most was the fact that their blog never felt like a selling platform. They stuck to their main topic and remained genuine. That is they key. If you are genuine about what you write, the readers will take note and your # of followers will eventually grow.

How to start blogging?

1. The first step is to identify a topic that you are passionate about. What are you good at? What do your friends always seek your advice on?

2. Select a platform! From the very first blog to now, I have always been a fan of WordPress. It’s easy to use and the community of bloggers on there just made me feel right at home. Sure there are plenty others to pick from, but if you want to get your feet wet I would suggest you go with WordPress.

3. Pick a cool and relevant name! Something people will easily remember. If they can remember it, it’ll be easier to come back.

4. Share it!Β Tell your friends about it. Launch a fan page. Blogging is even better with friends!

5. Be consistent!Β This doesn’t mean you have to blog every day. I mean you do have a life. Currently, I blog three times a week. Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays {sometimes I pick other days…lol! Life doesn’t always allow for things to fall in line.} This allows me to work on my content, but still have time to enjoy my life with my family.

I am in love with blogging so much and I think I’ll keep doing it well into my golden years. Wouldn’t it be awesome to chronicle my life and years later have my munchkin and my future grandbabies be able to look back and read about my journey? Just the thought of it drives me to keep at it.

Here’s to 10 years of awesomeness and decades more to come!
