It’s already been 2 weeks since I took my princess to the Trolls Experience during spring break. Boy did that go by real fast. As with most NYC schools, she was on break from February 18th through February 22nd (my birthday by the way 🤪)
During her break, she got to spend some quality time with some of her big sisters from church, spent a full day at grandma’s, and we headed over to see her new fave character from the Trolls movie – Poppy!
I’ve had my eye on this one for while. I finally decided to go when my sis-in-law encouraged me to after getting some great feedback from a friend.
I immediately went online and purchased our tickets. It was a date for just the two of us. Mommy and daughter were headed to see the trolls. Yayyyy!
We hopped on the train and took it to 59th street Columbus Circle.
Mommy, how many more stops?
I can’t tell you how many times she asked me the same question. It didn’t stop until we actually got off the train. 🤦🏾♀️
Are we there yet?
As we went up the stairs, I could see the excitement on her face and the additional pep in her step. We walked a few blocks over to 57th street and there it was – The Trolls Experience.
She opened the door and walked in. We went to the coat check, got rid of our coats, and went straight to the line. Purchasing my tickets online made for a speedy check-in.
Snow storm to hit NYC this afternoon.
We soon realized we chose a great day to go.
80% of parents stayed home which made for a nearly empty venue for me and my princess.
There were so few people there that we were able to be admitted a half-hour before our scheduled time.
The first stop on our Trolls Experience adventure was the salon. She got to pick her troll headpiece, a tattoo, and got the tip of her nose painted – Hot Pink!
There is a hair package that looked pretty cool. It includes a troll wig and a fully painted face. However, I opted out. Honestly, I was not about to dish out an additional $50. Yes, it’s a once in a lifetime experience. Yes, she is worth it. But, the way my checkings and savings is set up… 😂🤷🏾♀️
At the end of the day, I’m sure happy I didn’t get the additional package. My princess would have been the only child walking around the place with hot pink hair and a full troll face. Out of the maybe 40 people there, not one person went for the hair package. (Knowing my daughter, she would have felt awkward being the only one and would spend half the time trying to hide behind me 🤦🏾♀️).
The next stop was the music garden. She really loved this one. My daughter is bent on being a drummer (and a chef and a doctor and a teacher… she better be awarded some scholarships 👀). The music garden allowed her to bang on things and make music. She was in heaven!
Don’t sleep y’all! Mommy was banging on everything right along with her 😂
Next up was what she was looking forward to the whole time – the confetti caterpillar bus. We were the ONLY two in there which made for a fun time of running around trying to catch paper confetti.
After having to shake paper confetti out of my hair, it was time for the – dance party. She danced her little heart out and tried to touch all of the 3D trolls coming at her in the dance room. It was cute watching her reach out for the trolls. 😍
The next stop was the scrapbook room. We took a few silly pictures and put them together on a few scrapbook pages that were given to her. Cute, BUT I think this part could have used a bit more creativity and a few more activities. Some coloring pages, glitter glue, some construction paper, and a few arts and crafts projects would have completely changed things. We breezed through this section real quick 👎🏾.
Finally, we came to the part that she had been waiting for. She got to meet her hot pink-haired idol – Poppy!
I could not believe how much she screamed. She ran to Poppy which is a major win for Poppy. Why? When my daughter saw Minnie and Daisy for the first time, I had to stand between her and the characters because she refused to go near them on her own. 🙅🏾♀️👀
We took a few pics with Poppy, then off to the Café/Gift shop for cupcakes and some cool souvenirs.
Overall, it was a fun time for both my daughter and I. The displays were well made, creative, fun, and it was really cool seeing one of her favorite movies come to life.
With that said, for some reason I expected a little more. Maybe, I’ve been spoiled by Disney and expect every experience to match up to the Magic Kingdom experience. I know that’s not fair, but it just seemed like there could have been a little more. The whole Trolls Experience took less than 45 minutes (granted there were not many people there).
Would I recommend taking your kids?
If your kids are troll fans like mine, I would definitely say it is worth the trip. However, I would definitely plan a part B. I would have been a bit annoyed if I commuted 2 hours for just a 45-minute experience (honestly, it would have been less if we didn’t pause for picture breaks).
We ended up going to the Oculus at the World Trade Center and meeting up with daddy at his office. That made for a great day for my daughter.
Met Poppy ✔️
Saw Daddy ✔️
BEST DAY EVER!
A few things to know before you go.
If you want the Hair package, book it when you purchase your tickets. The hair salon appointment must coincide with your admission time.Definitely eat before you arrive. The Café is more of a gift shop than a Café. Aside from a few sweet treats, there are not many food options.
Buy your own scrapbook before you get there. At the Trolls Experience, it cost $30. Honestly, for that amount of money you can probably buy a couple of scrapbooks on Amazon.
Bring your camera (or charge your phone before you get there)! There will be plenty of opportunities to snap some cute pics for that scrapbook you ordered 😉and outlets are hard to come by.
Babies are welcome, but there isn’t much for them to do. Oh, and the gift shop has NO baby gifts 👀. I couldn’t even find a troll onesie. No bibs! No baby toys! No bueno! For a kid-friendly environment, I would have expected to see souvenirs that cater to kids of all ages.
My recommendation is to make this one-stop of many. The Trolls Experience goes by pretty quickly and you probably can fit a few other cool things in your schedule for the day. Hey, it’s NYC! Make a day out of it!
Yes, the snow ❄️ ⛄️ finally made its debut. Luckily for us, we were already almost home.
