Thirty – Dear Younger Me, Life ain’t over.

One of the challenges many young women face is dealing with the pressures and expectations society places on them. Especially, when they are approaching thirty. The sad part is, I allowed it to take a toll on me during my single days, and sometimes I still do. ??‍♀️

Why?

Because I am a recovering people pleaser. Say what you want, but I ain’t the only one. ?

Not measuring up to the expectations of others can sometimes leave you feeling like a disappointment.

Then, one day I had to tell myself…

Sis, this here is your life.

There seems to be an invisible timeline that society lives by. What I don’t understand is how that timeline is expected to suit everyone. ?

Un-real!

According to society, if you’re a young woman with a good head on your shoulders AND you’re pushing thirty, the PRESSURE IS ON. ?

Girl, you ain’t married yet?

(No and that’s okay ??)

Wait, you don’t have any kids yet?

(No and that’s okay ??)

You know it gets harder after thirty, right?

(?, spare me!)

Once you hit thirty-five, girl it’s over!

(Well, that’s a bold face lie!)

Today, I want to address the foolery in a letter to my younger self. Why?

  1. It serves as a reminder that I have conquered the negative ideals that held me back when I was younger.

  2. It serves as a motivator for my current self.

I wrote this Dear Me letter because it was an exercise that was long overdue. After writing this letter, I realized that I am actually crushing it on a daily basis.

I am not a failure. ??

I am achieving my goals. ??

I am the bomb-dot-com. ??

No, I’m not trying to be conceited, and No, I’m not full of myself. Sometimes, you’ve got to be your own cheerleader.

You go, boo!

thirty

There’s a hymn that says Count your blessings name them one by one. Count your blessings see what God has done.

This isn’t just some mumbo jumbo church folk sing. It’s a practice that can transform your outlook and open doors for more blessings.

Looking back on how far I’ve come has given me hope for the future.

So without further delay, here goes my letter…

Heyyyyy Gorgeous,

You are a phenomenal woman and there is no one else like YOU. I am so proud of your achievements. You’ve risen above so many hurdles. You’ve managed to keep your head up and your faith rooted despite what others have said or done.

God has so much in store for you and girl it’s gonna be amazing. I know you’ve been hearing that your clock is ticking and that you are nearing the end. Well boo, I’m here to tell you …

They are lying ? ? ?

I know you’ll be thirty soon, but less than a year later you’ll have your dream outdoor wedding by the water at age thirty -one. ??

Shortly after your one year anniversary, you’ll welcome a BEAUTIFUL HEALTHY princess into the world at age thirty -two. ??

Shocked? You ain’t hear nothing yet.

Did they say you’ll have a hard time having a baby after thirty -five? Well, your last pregnancy test proves that’s a lie. You welcomed another bundle of joy at age thirty -eight and this time it’s a handsome prince. ??

Your clock has always been ticking. By the way, that’s what clocks do.??‍♀️

Hey, I’m just stating the obvious.

Life’s not a race and there’s no deadline to meet. The only thing you need to know is that what’s meant to be yours will come to pass and …

honey, the future is bright.

You’ll gain new friends and you’ll lose some long time ones too, but in the end, you’ll be alright.

Some days everything will go right and some days nothing will go your way, but you’ll make it through.

You’ll experience some heartbreaks, but somehow time will mend those wounds.

Forgive others even when they have not forgiven you. In the end, making this a practice will set you free.

Walk into every room with confidence because you do belong there.

Leave your past where it belongs. Learn from your mistakes and help someone learn too.

God will continue to use you. Stay humble and trust His plan.

So wipe away those tears and rest easy tonight. Stop settling for mediocre just to silence the noise. What’s coming to you is beyond what you ever imagined.

Trust the process and stick to the Master’s plan.

Life’s not over, it’s only just beginning.

Love always,

You!
