Despite everything that’s going on around the world, we are two days away from Resurrection Sunday. From Good Friday (tomorrow) to Easter Monday, millions of Christians around the world take the time out to commemorate the ultimate sacrifice made by our Lord and Savior – Jesus Christ.
I have always loved Easter weekend. It is a special weekend where families not only get to worship together but also enjoy each other’s company. I try to make Easter weekend fun, memorable and inspiring for the kids every year.
From Annual Easter Egg hunts with family friends to an uplifting service at our local church, we really try to make the best of the entire weekend.
This Easter will be a little different. We won’t get to head to our physical church for service, but you can rest assured that we will still celebrate as we always do.
Just because we are practicing social distancing doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate Easter as we should. There are many ways we can make this an awesome Easter weekend and still adhere to the social distancing guidelines.
Stream Services Online! – Many churches stream their services online and have been doing so even before the social distancing guidelines went into effect. There is no reason for your family not to attend service together this Resurrection Sunday. If you are looking for a service to attend this weekend, you are welcome to join my family here.
Virtual Easter Lunch/Dinner – Our family usually gets together for our annual Easter potluck. This year, I sent out a family invite to a virtual lunch. With today’s technology, there is no reason we can’t share a meal together over Facetime, WebEx, Zoom, WhatsApp or any other apps or virtual platforms.
Easter Egg Hunt – Yard/Indoor Edition – If your kids were looking forward to the local community Easter egg hunt like my daughter was, why not set up an Easter Egg Hunt right in your backyard or indoor. I have actually done both and my kids had a blast. You can find a few helpful tips for an indoor egg hunt here.
Bake with the Kiddies! – My daughter loves to bake. Whether cupcakes, cakes or cookies. She loves the kitchen and baking is her thing. This Easter we plan on baking our own treats and decorating them to the max. Lucky for us, our favorite baker and owner of Loungin’ Cake – Danae Henry – dropped off her vanilla pre-packaged cake mix right in time for Easter. There will be no Betty Crocker for us this year. We are whipping up some desserts with Loungin’ Cake’s cake mix. I can’t wait to share pics of our creations. Follow me on Instagram to see the results.
P.S. – You can also place an order with Loungin’ Cake to get your cake mix in time for Easter!
You can also find some cool recipes below to get your family excited about baking together this weekend.
Get Dressed Up and Snap Away! – There is no reason you shouldn’t get all dolled up this Easter Sunday. Follow your regular routine – heels and all – and take pics of your family. This will definitely be a year to remember so why not make some positive memories.
We’ve captured pics of our family throughout the years and we don’t intend to stop now. We take advantage of the spring weather and festivities to capture memories that will last us a lifetime.
Spend QUALITY time with those you love! – There are many families today that would love to be able to enjoy what you are taking for granted. We are in the land of the living and that alone is reason to celebrate. It’s easy to focus on the negative with 24/7 coverage of the pandemic. However, I encourage you to spend time with the ones you love. After Easter lunch/dinner, have a game night, movie night, etc. Just cherish each other’s company and be intentional about loving each other.
Easter Weekend has definitely become one of my favorite holidays – not because of the egg hunts, photos, or great food we devour during easter dinner, but because it gives me the opportunity to take a step back and count my blessings.
The death of Jesus Christ and His resurrection allows me to live my life today. Even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, I can confidently say without a shadow of a doubt that I am STILL blessed.
This year, instead of us going into the Lord’s physical house, we are inviting him to ours with a special seat at the head of the table.
Happy Easter from my family to yours!
